The short version
Remark is a native macOS app. Your files stay on your machine. We don't collect, store, or transmit your documents, comments, or any file content.
What we collect
We use PostHog for analytics on this website, hosted in the EU and running in cookieless mode. Nothing is stored on your device — no cookies, no local storage. Visitors are counted using a privacy-preserving hash computed on PostHog's servers, which is why this site shows no cookie banner.
The Remark app itself sends anonymous usage analytics via PostHog to help us understand which features are used. No personal data, file content, or comment text is ever transmitted. You can opt out in the app settings.
Update checks
Remark periodically checks updates.getremark.app to see if a new version is available.
This request contains your app version and platform. No other data is sent.
License validation
Remark validates your license key via Polar.sh. This transmits only your license key. No file content or usage data is shared with Polar.
Data storage
All your comments, documents, and review data are stored locally on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded to any server. We have zero access to your files.
Third-party services
